Michael John Moran
Boy Scout Troop 40 in Hopewell Junction awarded the rank of Eagle Scout
to Michael John Moran. Michael John is the 40th scout to earn the rank of
Eagle since the formation of the Troop 40 in 1964. An award ceremony was
held recently at the Town of Beekman Recreation Center.
Michael John joined Boy Scout Troop 40 in 2002 and excelled through the
ranks attaining the rank of Life Scout in less than three years. His
leadership positions in the troop have included Bugler, Patrol Leader and
Troop Historian. Michael John was presented the Ad Altare De Religious
Award at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City in 2004.
For his Eagle Project, Michael John planned and led the renovation and
construction of the playground at Saint Aloysius Happy House Preschool and
Kindergarten. The project involved cleaning and completely renovating the
existing wooden playground equipment at the school, power washing the
school buildings and seeding the school grounds. He also led a team which
disassembled a wooden play set donated to the school and reassembled it in
tandem with existing play equipment.
Michael John attends the Trinity-Pawling School in Pawling, New York and
is in his junior year. His extracurricular activities at the school
include writing for the school newspaper, playing the trumpet in the Jazz
Band, membership in the Botany Club, JV Football, Varsity Ski Team and
Varsity Baseball Team. Michael John is a Third Degree Bodam belt in Tae
Kwon Do, an active member in the Millerton Gun Club, and is a certified Red
Cross Life Guard.
