Troop 40

Our chartering organization, St. Columba, as part of the Archdiocese of New York, has a program called Safe Environment designed to protect our youth. All adults working with children are required to fill out a couple of forms authorizing a background check and take a short training course (online option available). The Archdiocese has informed St. Columba that this not only applies to our registered leaders and adults accompanying the Troop on trips, but also to adults driving our Scouts from the sheds to an event, adults regularly attending meetings, ... in essence anyone having contact with the Scouts.

Occasionally we have more Scouts go on a trip than will fit in the vehicles of the adults going on the trip. In those cases parents may be called on to take Scouts from the sheds and drop off at an event or pick up Scouts and drive them back to the sheds. In those cases we will need the adults to have filled out the Safe Environment forms and taken the training.

This need for drivers may come up at the last minute and in order to Be Prepared we are asking parents to meet the Safe Environment requirements in case we need to call on someone to drive our Scouts. The Adult Information Form should be filled out annually in order to be able to transport Scouts.

The Adult Registration Instructions for Troop 40 explains all the requirements and contains the necessary forms and training information. If you have done this already due to your other involvements with St. Columba you do not need to do it again, but please inform us so we can offically list you as having fulfilled the Archdiocese requirements.
